With over 30 years experience in financial services, Philip Hanley has run his own financial planning practice, Philip James Financial Services, since 1994. Consistently offering straightforward investment and pensions advice with a personal service, we now have over £62m under advice and over 600 clients.

We are members of the Ethical Investment Association and UKSIF – the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association.

Meet the team
  • Philip Hanley BA (Hons) Exon, AFPC, Dip PFS
    Director and Independent Financial Adviser

    Philip set up Philip James Financial Services in 1994.  The company became a limited company, directly authorised with the FCA, in April 2011. He has completed the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Advanced Financial Planning qualification and is a member by Diploma of the Personal Finance Society.

    Philip runs his business from the Cotswolds, where he lives with his wife, three sons and a daughter.

  • John Butterworth
    Independent Financial Adviser

    John began his career at Allied Dunbar in 1990 as an adviser, later promoted to manager. He became an Independent Financial Adviser in 2004 and joined Philip James Financial Services in 2015.

    As well as providing investment, pension and protection advice, John is our equity release and auto-enrolment/workplace pension specialist.

  • Nigel Clark
    Protection Adviser and Client Relationship Manager

    Nigel started his career in financial services in 1990 as an adviser with Prudential. He became an Independent Financial Adviser in 2001 and joined Philip James Financial Services at the end of 2012.

    Nigel is married with three grown-up children and  has lived and worked in the Cotswolds for over thirty years.

  • Jim Cross
    Compliance Consultant

    Jim spent twenty years with Prudential, where he held both Sales and Training and Competency Manager positions.

    He has developed this latter role since leaving ‘the Pru’, and is now a specialist Consultant. His role is to monitor and coordinate our compliance processes.

  • Donna Hiscock
    Administration Services

    Donna has worked in  financial services administration for nearly thirty years, the first twenty of those with Allied Dunbar (now Zurich) in Swindon. She is responsible for all aspects of our service to you as a client and our  ‘back office’ operations.

    Donna is married with two children and works from our ‘Admin’ office in Swindon.
