For those advisers who are working full-time, it seems there are plenty of potential clients out there. Many do put up barriers. We’re the only independent advisers within 20 miles who don’t have a minimum ‘level of wealth. However, whether the unadvised know they should or want to be clients is another question. Asking for help, in any aspect of life, can be a big step. It’s often a crisis which pushes you to it; had you asked earlier, the crisis may not have arisen; the problem might still be there, but forethought and planning could smooth the way. We know, of course we know, that regulation is, or at least should be a ‘good thing’. If those who need or should seek advice can be confident that they’ll be told the right thing, that someone has looked at those ’too good to be true’ investments before they’re allowed to take your money; or, in the case of a Woodford, while they’re raking it in to make sure it’s going where it’s supposed to.
