Yawn. Here we go again. More compensation paid out to punters, lured into transferring their pensions to SIPPs, thence into dodgy, unregulated investments with marvellous guaranteed returns. This time by companies based in Ireland and Cyprus! I mean, whatever happened to our famous British common sense? You know, the same common sense which ensures we all keep our distance and wear masks even if we don’t have to? Anyway, it’s us, so indirectly you, who’ll have to fork out for it all. Again.

In isolation, Mrs Miggins (not my invention) will be delighted that her pension has gone up with the highest measure of inflation; and no one running a business will be complaining that National Insurance has been reduced.
