I’ve bored many of you before with my tale of the five months it took BT, not to install broadband, simply to move the socket. After discussions with operatives from all corners of the UK and sub-continent, it took an email to the CEO to eventually make it happen (seven weeks later). So in my view, it couldn’t be any worse were it to be nationalised, and, who knows, may even improve. You’ll note, however, that in all the talk of nationalisation, the ‘P’ (for pension) word has not yet been mentioned. Read on.

Are workers working from home more or less productive than those catching the 7.02am to London Bridge every day? ‘Probably sitting at home in their bleedin’ jim-jams’, said someone recently of a less-than-helpful call centre employee, the assumption being that, were they surrounded by colleagues and with a manager cracking the whip, he or she would have sorted his energy bill more efficiently.
