We’re all used to buying Peruvian prunes, Kenyan kiwis and Latvian lemons (well, maybe not) flown to a Waitrose warehouse or, worse still, delivered to your home wrapped in plastic in a diesel-guzzling Ocado van. So Greta’s right, we can blame Peru and Kenya for this, not our greed for non-seasonal fruits. Quite likely, though, unless we get ’great trade deal’ with these exotic fruit producers, we’ll have to, like our forefathers, rely on apple chutney to get us through the winter months.

Are workers working from home more or less productive than those catching the 7.02am to London Bridge every day? ‘Probably sitting at home in their bleedin’ jim-jams’, said someone recently of a less-than-helpful call centre employee, the assumption being that, were they surrounded by colleagues and with a manager cracking the whip, he or she would have sorted his energy bill more efficiently.
