A quote from the brilliant Michelle Obama (aka ‘she who should be president’): ‘This year, we’re all making plans in pencil’. Unfortunately, our government seems to have taken this as a central tenet of its policy-making, and not just on exams, track and trace, school meals, covid testing, PPE…but now on the Brexit agreement; or ‘discussion’, as they might prefer to term it. Whether you think we’re right to play hardball with pesky foreigners or that the whole thing should never happen, be aware that some of our preferred portfolios now have only around 11% invested in UK shares. Which might be good for your savings; but surely not, in the long-term, for the country.
