Potholes are causing £1m a month in repair claims. So why don’t they get on and fix them? Because it will cost £9bn to bring our roads back up to pre-2010 scratch, so it’s cheaper to pay the claims (as most of those who start try to get money out of a local authority will give up before they lose the will to live) and delegate the problem to the next government.
