Who knew there were so many Russians living in our midst, in fear of their lives? As non-EU citizens, what traumas, I wonder, did they go through on arrival in the UK? Did they, like refugees from many other countries, spend months in detention centres trying to prove that they’d face torture or death if they returned to their homeland? Did their ability to buy large central London properties for cash smooth the process at all? I somehow doubt they troubled either Amnesty or the UNHCR.
“Will 2023 escape the much-feared recession?”
Is recession just a state of mind? Well partly, as it all depends where you are, what you’re doing (or did, if you’ve lost your job) and on the effect whatever’s happening to ‘the economy’ has on you.
