The funniest thing about this story was the fit of giggles into which it sent BBC newsman, Evan Davis, click to listen. Its implications for the world of fake news (propaganda, in 1930s speak) are not so funny. The Prez made a mistake and said Alabama would be hit by the hurricane. Rather than admit he was wrong, he changed the map; and those working for the US Met Office were told to keep quiet if they valued their jobs. Scary. Bet, though, that he’s still re-elected.

Are workers working from home more or less productive than those catching the 7.02am to London Bridge every day? ‘Probably sitting at home in their bleedin’ jim-jams’, said someone recently of a less-than-helpful call centre employee, the assumption being that, were they surrounded by colleagues and with a manager cracking the whip, he or she would have sorted his energy bill more efficiently.
