Most radio and TV chatter focused on what wasn’t in the Budget. Nothing on social care, no extra help for me, us, them, him. What also wasn’t there was much of the stuff we were worried would be. No mention of pension tax relief, inheritance, capital gains and nasty, new wealth taxes. Instead, he was stealthy, he let off the wealthy and I won’t embarrass myself by trying to squeeze ‘healthy’ into this sentence. The ‘stealthy’, not inflation-linking various allowances, won’t creep up on us until both Boris and Rishi are long-gone. But I do think Brexit Britain will rue the corporation tax hikes.

We have been or are, depending on your point of view or choice of statistics, in the midst of a recession. The faint glimmer at the end of a long tunnel is that the economy apparently grew in January, although 0.2% isn’t exactly storming ahead.
