The other real problem of our age (after climate change, Brexit shouldn’t even be in the mix) is social care, or, how do we look after old people who can’t look after themselves. As a high rate tax payer who hopes to be old one day, I reckon there are stark political choices. Do I vote for Boris, who promised to raise the high rate tax band to £80k, so that I have more cash in my pocket to save for a care home? For JC, who’ll raise taxes so I’ll pay now rather than then? Or move to Scotland where it’s already free but I’m not likely to live so long?
