“Trade war may escalate and kill bull market, banks warn”

‘We live in very troubled times’, I’m often told, ’there’s so much uncertainty about everything. Shouldn’t we just cash everything in and keep it under the mattress?’ And, yes, there’s Brexit, Trump, trade wars, Iran, Syria, Russia and much more to worry about.

But when my parents were my children’s age, they were in uniform in the middle of a world war. When I was growing up, America was napalming Vietnam and nuclear war seemed imminent. When I was my children’s age, there was a much higher chance of being bombed by the IRA or hijacked by the PLO than there is of an ISIS attack today. And ten years ago, the world’s banking system crashed and we were on the brink of the biggest recession for 70 years.

In other words, there’s always something to worry about. In the words of the great Bobby McFerrin (kids etc), don’t worry, be happy. My thought for the week.
