When Lloyds and TSB split a couple of years ago, it divided our family like a Banking Berlin Wall, half of us remaining with Lloyds and the rest allocated to the nice, cosy, local TSB branch. Pity the poor branch staff who are getting all the grief over an IT nightmare that’s hardly their fault. I would be very surprised, however, if their CEO who ‘has refused to answer questions about his £1.6m bonus, which is due to be paid once the IT migration is complete’ and who’s pay tripled to around £4m last year’, lasts another week.

Are workers working from home more or less productive than those catching the 7.02am to London Bridge every day? ‘Probably sitting at home in their bleedin’ jim-jams’, said someone recently of a less-than-helpful call centre employee, the assumption being that, were they surrounded by colleagues and with a manager cracking the whip, he or she would have sorted his energy bill more efficiently.
