The BBC’s very brave Orla Geurin was at a primary school in Yemen last night. It has no walls, windows or desks and a blind 9 year old teacher. There are no walls, windows or desks because it was bombed by the Saudis, no teachers because the government can’t pay them. We’re supplying the bombs (Biden has had the moral courage to stop), and halving our aid budget. The kids dodge bullets to turn up for class every day, Covid and the effects on their mental-well being of home-schooling being the least of their worries. Shame on us all.

Are workers working from home more or less productive than those catching the 7.02am to London Bridge every day? ‘Probably sitting at home in their bleedin’ jim-jams’, said someone recently of a less-than-helpful call centre employee, the assumption being that, were they surrounded by colleagues and with a manager cracking the whip, he or she would have sorted his energy bill more efficiently.
