Not much sympathy from Phil H (the other one) for doctors with unexpected and often huge pension tax bills. His solution is to tinker around with the NHS Pension Scheme. Not I would guess, to make it in any way better; more likely he’ll cap doctors’ benefits, reduce their pensions and therefore the tax they have to pay. As always, our Lords and Masters giveth with one hand…

“HMRC scraps plans to tax pensions after death”

A couple of other Statement Highlights (in my world, anyway). A welcome ‘nothing happened’ on the treatment of pensions on death. They were never going to be liable to IHT (too complicated with trusts and trust law) but there was talk of making them income-taxable on the recipients at whatever age you die.
