I’m writing this on the internet. My business runs almost entirely via the internet (with brief interludes when I venture out to see clients). I watch TV, films and listen to books on the internet. My family bought most of my birthday prezzies and I arranged our weekend in London via the internet. I think it’s great; my only problem is that I’ve run out of children, birthdays, house, pet and street names to use as passwords. And what makes it great is that it can’t be controlled; unless you believe the conspiracy theories (which you’ll find, guess where, on the internet) saying it is all controlled by Putin/Trump/Apple/China/take you pick.

Are workers working from home more or less productive than those catching the 7.02am to London Bridge every day? ‘Probably sitting at home in their bleedin’ jim-jams’, said someone recently of a less-than-helpful call centre employee, the assumption being that, were they surrounded by colleagues and with a manager cracking the whip, he or she would have sorted his energy bill more efficiently.
