Don’t you just love the way survey results can be used for any headline you like? The spin here could just as easily be ’60% of advisers are seeing more or just as many new clients despite Covid’. At the risk of upsetting fellow advisers who are ’suffering’, most don’t try too hard to find new clients and many, if other surveys are to be believed, are cruising to retirement. If you still want to grow your business, the message is the same in all industries/businesses/professions. Move with the times. Get a decent website. Use social media. Embrace rocket science. Or, in the words of Soft Cell (kids etc.), ‘Say Hello, Wave Goodbye’.

We know, of course we know, that regulation is, or at least should be a ‘good thing’. If those who need or should seek advice can be confident that they’ll be told the right thing, that someone has looked at those ’too good to be true’ investments before they’re allowed to take your money; or, in the case of a Woodford, while they’re raking it in to make sure it’s going where it’s supposed to.
