In my far-off, halcyon, salad days as a travel rep, a good number of those arriving on the Costa Brava had never been abroad, or even flown before. It’s easy to forget both that the combination of package holidays and cheap flights was relatively new, even in the boom-boom ‘80s, and that airports once felt vaguely glamourous. Now, a couple of trips abroad are a right, we feel, of which Covid and Boris have deprived us and I suspect more will feel miffed about this than the new Police Bill. My prediction: Cheapo foreign hols will become a thing of the past; and the Grand Duchy of Cornwall will be the new Monaco.
