I often say we should learn the lessons of history and it’s at times like these I wonder how we’d have been sorted out Brexit with our European neighbours in years gone by? Quite simple. Either Theresa May’s daughter (I know, but bear with me) would have married Merkel’s or Macron’s son; or we’d have sent the Duke of Marlborough over with an army. As for the Irish question, we’d only have bothered with the latter, I fear. Perhaps we have moved on, after all.
