I’ve had one or two nice holidays in Dubai, when the exchange rate was a tad better and before it became a go-to destination for Premiership footballers and TOWIE stars. And it’s an interesting place, aiming, as it does, to be a sort of desert New York. It famously has no oil, so has to make its money in other ways to its neighbours; which has led to all sorts of stories of through-flows of cash from murky places with very different climates to its own. So I don’t think its reputation will be enhanced by this week’s news of the opening of new ‘trade offices’ in both Panama and Columbia. But needs must, and we, too, need all the new trading partners we can find. Off you go, Boris.

Here’s the flip side. Should a business not have the right to choose whom it serves? If you as a client, or more likely potential client, rub us up the wrong way, are a declared anti-vaxxer or support the barges, can we not, as a business, say ‘Be Gone’?
