This really should be an opportunity to change our exam system for the better, for good. Every education minister (and many parents) want to keep the good old-fashioned methods that ‘didn’t do them any harm’. But we all know that most exams are just memory tests. Remembering a few quotes from King Lear doesn’t mean you actually understand it. All exams should be open book or computer, and probably marked by the teachers who really know the pupils. No more stressful, hot summer days wasted in ghastly halls and gyms with grim-faced invigilators strolling around. All can be done remotely. Think outside the box, educators.
