A Swedish official was asked this week whether the EU would grant an extension to Article 50. His reply : ‘You are labouring under the misapprehension that the EU still wants the UK to stay. That was three years ago. Now, they’re more wondering whatever possessed them to let the UK in.’ The funny thing has always been that many of those wanting to leave must remember our ‘poor man of Europe’ days when we were desperate to join. Yes, I know it’s not just a Common Market now. So if we have to go, let’s just stay in the Common Market bit. And let all the care workers stay. Too easy?
