I can hear the questions now: ‘I’m always reading about people who’ve had money in pensions and have lost the lot”. “These SIPPs are really dodgy, aren’t they? Why are you recommending one to me?”. A pension or SIPP is no more ‘dodgy’ than an empty room. The room could be filled with cushions and nice, chilled bottles of rosé; or a mugger in a hoodie with a box of snakes. And your pension could be invested in a nice, safe, managed fund; or a non-existent plantation of trees in Australia. You wouldn’t and shouldn’t walk into either of the latter.
“Why you should never retire”
On my 50th birthday, I will always remember, amongst the card or two I received was a letter from Saga’ who’d managed to find out my age through the wonder of the internet, and were pleased to tell me I now qualified to join my parents and go on holiday with them.
