Yes, they really do get their sticky fingers into everything, don’t they? Despite the headline, the regulator is not cracking down on unsuitable music or dress codes, rather those ‘pay for you funeral now, save the kids money’ plans, widely advertised and sold (for commission, of course) in recent years. My problem with these has always been that their target market is those who can least afford it. Anyone with any reasonable amount in savings either wouldn’t be worried or would ask their financial adviser who, if worth their salt, would tell them not to worry. You really won’t save money for anyone and are more likely to upset than comfort those you leave behind. I’d say.

In an election year, all parties will try to be all things to all men. Mostly, it’s only stuff which matters ‘on the doorstep’ which matters. In isolation, Mrs Miggins (not my invention) will be delighted that her pension has gone up with the highest measure of inflation; and no one running a business will be complaining that National Insurance has been reduced.
