Including my own and children’s (usually 3rd year in old money) schooldays, I’ve ‘done’ the English Civil War five times now. Before and after, there was a lot of dissolving and reforming of parliament, most of it tragically miscalculated. The main potential connection with our current potential shenanigans is that, although many of those at the top lost their heads, far more of those at the bottom of the pile,  who hadn’t a clue what was going on, suffered as a result. And so it goes on.
