Anything any Chancellor says about the economy is bound to be positive, unless they’re within spitting or shouting distance of a previous government whom they can blame for the rot. After The Banking Crash of 2008, George Osborne was able to both spit and shout over the distance of quite a few years, but it’s a stretch now for the other Phil H. to still blame Gordon Brown (kids etc.) for any current woes. They should probably blame David Cameron, late of this parish. But he’s still, sort of, one of their own.

It may have seemed a Bland Budget, but that’s because Hunt got all the nasties out of the way in the Autumn Statement, in the hope, I guess, that we’ll have forgotten all about them by the time they hit us.
