We’ve refused to help a couple of clients raid their pension pots when it was mad for them to do so. In both cases it was better value for them to borrow what they needed than pay 30% tax (in one case £60k!), especially as it was to either do up the garden or buy a car. One made a formal complaint about our poor service. I decided not to compensate them.

On my 50th birthday, I will always remember, amongst the card or two I received was a letter from Saga’ who’d managed to find out my age through the wonder of the internet, and were pleased to tell me I now qualified to join my parents and go on holiday with them.
