Many pretty-comfortable retired clients (the Boomers) worry that their children (the Millennials), and particularly their grandchildren (the Gen Zs; I know), won’t have the pensions that they do, as final salary schemes are no more; won’t get their state pensions until they’re ancient; and will have to spend what they do get on care. My glass is half-full on this one, having read ‘The One Hundred Year Life’ on hols. Its message is, don’t expect to retire. If you live a long life, you won’t be able to afford to. Find, instead, lots of different jobs you like doing, and keep working. Or win the lottery. Simples.
“Why you should never retire”
On my 50th birthday, I will always remember, amongst the card or two I received was a letter from Saga’ who’d managed to find out my age through the wonder of the internet, and were pleased to tell me I now qualified to join my parents and go on holiday with them.
