Of course, the tax breaks for electric cars are pretty good, which is why there are too many EVs for the available chargers. If you think of other tax breaks, they’re to encourage you to do stuff, like take out pensions; or to take a risk, investing in small start-ups via Enterprise Investment Schemes or Venture Capital Trusts, or small companies to get IHT relief. We’re being encouraged to save the planet, with the risk of having to call at every motorway services on every journey; and spend hours on helplines to dodgy charging companies. Worth it? Well, the car’s great and I’m sure Greta is pleased with me. As for the rest, I’ll keep you posted.

Are workers working from home more or less productive than those catching the 7.02am to London Bridge every day? ‘Probably sitting at home in their bleedin’ jim-jams’, said someone recently of a less-than-helpful call centre employee, the assumption being that, were they surrounded by colleagues and with a manager cracking the whip, he or she would have sorted his energy bill more efficiently.
